JOB OPPORTUNITY – Policy Intern

Food Secure Canada is looking for a Policy Intern who will support the organization in its ongoing projects and activities that all work to strengthen the health, equity and sustainability of food systems in Canada. The Intern will report to the co-Executive Directors but will work alongside the other staff members. Food Secure Canada is based in Montreal but the Intern may work remotely from anywhere in Canada. The nature of the work will largely depend on the background and qualifications of the Intern, and every effort will be made to align the work with their area of study and expertise.

Position Details:

  • Full-time position: 4 days (32 hours) per week for maximum 16 weeks, from May to August (exact dates to be confirmed with applicant)
  • Wage: $20/hr
  • Office (if working on-site): Suite 305, 4067 Saint Laurent, Montreal, QC
  • Computer and internet access provided for staff working on site; remote staff are required to provide their own

Specific Tasks:

  • Assisting the Project & Engagement Manager with the planning, management, and implementation of engagement events of various sizes and scales;
  • Participate in translation of knowledge for a wide variety of audiences;
  • Support the synthesizing of learnings into case studies, reports and recommendations and their transmission to policy makers;
  • Assisting the Policy Manager and the Senior Policy Advisor with research and the drafting of reports; 
  • Participate in FSC staff meetings and contribute on request to the collective work of the organization; and
  • Other duties that may arise.

Assets:

  • University or College degree in a relevant field of study OR demonstrable equivalent expertise gained through life and work experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of food systems, and a food justice, anti-racist and decolonising approach and analysis;
  • Experience of policy development in a  food systems organisation or a related field;
  • Lived experience or deep professional experience with equity-seeking communities most affected by lack of access to healthy, sustainable food;
  • Expertise in knowledge translation;
  • Strong listening abilities and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively;
  • Ability to work within multiple deadlines and effectively manage workload; and
  • Working proficiency in both English and French.
