Report: “Sustainable Consumption for All: Revisiting the accessibility of sustainably-produced food in Canada during COVID-19”
This report from Farzaneh Barak and Monika Korzun explores how the pandemic impacted sustainable food consumption among those living with a low income as well as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.
Understanding the impact of COVID-19 on sustainable consumption
This study is a follow-up to a 2019 study from Food Secure Canada which examines how consumers living with low-incomes value and access to sustainably grown foods, what barriers they face in doing so and what policy measures could be undertaken to facilitate greater access.
In 2021, FSC decided to revisit the 2019 report in light of the pandemic and how it might have impacted different communities, focusing especially on the experiences of Black and racialized communities, and Indigenous peoples. The research follow-up analyzes the opinions and expertise of food system leaders and demonstrates that sustainable food is more important than ever before.
