[SUMMER JOB] Event coordination and communications assistant

Task description:

  • Support event communications (e-mails, newsletters and social media)

  • Update organization’s website and event mobile app

  • Liaise with suppliers

  • Respond to requests for information from partners, participants and speakers

  • Track conference registration

  • Support the organization of guided tours and training sessions

  • Manage logistics around volunteer interpreters

The student will assist the event coordinator and the communications coordinator in all of the logistical and communication aspects of Resetting the Table, Food Secure Canada’s bi-annual Assembly. Held in the fall of 2018, this event aims to create opportunities for networking and collaboration between diverse stakeholders (community organizations, academic sector, private sector and civil society) creating a space where Canada’s brightest thinkers and leaders in food security and sustainable food can share best practices, innovate together, and obtain tools to better serve their communities. This internship will provide the student with rich training, equipping them to play a proactive part in his/her community.

Desired qualifications and skills

  • Student in the fields of community development, communication and information technology or any other relevant field;

  • Passionate about social media and online communication with a good strategic sense;

  • Excellent spoken and written French, good spoken English;

  • Well organised;

  • Attention to detail with capacity to carry out his or her tasks in a professional manner;

  • Familiarity with software tools (Office suite, Google suite, Dropbox etc.);

  • Team player.


This job is aimed at student in community development and action, or in communications and information technology. Through this internship, the student will develop relationships with a diversity of food security stakeholders working on the ground across Canada. They will also have the chance to deepen their knowledge of social issues related to poverty, intercultural relations, social and public policies.


Candidate must meet the eligibility criteria of the Summer Jobs Canada program:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the upcoming academic year

  • suit un programme d’études secondaires, postsecondaires, CÉGEP (Québec seulement), professionnelles ou techniques;

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations


Daytime schedule (flexible): 9-week internship, 30 hours a week for a total of 270 hours
