[Job] Communications Assistant

Food Secure Canada is looking for a Communications Assistant for our Montreal office for a 7-month period starting February 3, 2020.

Under the direction of the Communications Coordinator, and working closely with FSC’s team, the candidate will provide communications support, including work on social media, mass mailings, as well as associated websites.

 

Food Secure Canada is a pan-Canadian alliance of organizations and individuals working together to advance food security and food sovereignty through three interlocking goals: sustainable food systems, zero hunger, and healthy and safe food. Communications is a key part of our work to engage citizens, grassroots organizations and key political actors in a cross-sectoral movement.

Please note that candidates MUST be eligible for the Emploi Quebec “subvention salariale” program in order to be considered for this position.

 

Responsibilities

With the support of the Communications Coordinator, the Communications Assistant will gradually take on increased leadership and responsibility in the following areas:

  • Survey media for relevant food movement-related news and events; share them with our partners, members and networks

     
  • Develop content for and manage our social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

     
  • Participate in the writing of articles, press releases and create content for our blog, website and newsletter

     
  • Contribute to the development and execution of our communications strategy, including analysing relevant statistics to evaluate effectiveness and make adjustments accordingly

 

Qualifications

  • Passionate about the role of social media and online communication in social movements and political change

     
  • Very comfortable engaging on social media, with a strong understanding of appropriate tone

     
  • Excellent oral communication skills in English and French (bilingualism), excellent written communication in French

     
  • Works collaboratively, demonstrates initiative and pays strong attention to detail

     
  • Very comfortable with office-related software (Office suite, Google suite, Dropbox, etc.)

 

Assets

  • College or university degree in communications or a related field

     
  • Familiarity with contact management programs (Salesforce, CiviCRM, etc.)

     
  • Past experience animating social media in a non-profit or advocacy context

     
  • Sense of visual communication and familiarity with a graphic design tools (e.g., Photoshop)

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Full time (37.5h per week)
  • Salary : Conditions negociable
  • Seven month contract
