[Job] Communications Assistant

Food Secure Canada is looking for a Communications Assistant based in Quebec for a 7-month period starting June 2021.

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, and working closely with FSC’s team, the candidate will provide communications support, including social media, mass mailings, as well as associated websites.

Food Secure Canada is a pan-Canadian alliance of organizations and individuals working together to advance food security and food sovereignty through three interlocking goals: sustainable food systems, zero hunger, and healthy and safe food. Communications is a key part of our work to engage citizens, grassroots organizations and key political actors in a cross-sectoral movement.

Please note that candidates MUST be eligible for the Emploi Quebec “subvention salariale” program in order to be considered for this position.

 

Responsibilities

With the support of the Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant will take on leadership and responsibility in the following areas:

  • Scan media for relevant food movement-related news and events; share with our partners, members and networks
  • Develop content for and manage our social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Create graphics for support social media and targeted campaigns
  • Contribute to the writing of articles, press releases and develop content for blog, website and newsletter
  • Contribute to the development and execution of our communications strategy, including analysing relevant statistics to evaluate effectiveness and make adjustments accordingly
  • Create short videos to highlight organisation’s activities and key messages

 

Qualifications

  • Passionate about the role of social media and digital communications in social movements and political change
  • Very comfortable engaging on social media, with a strong understanding of appropriate tone
  • Excellent oral communication skills in English and French (bilingualism), excellent written communication in French
  • Works collaboratively, demonstrates initiative and pays strong attention to detail
  • Good visual communication sense and graphic design skills; comfortable with graphic design tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Canva)
  • Very comfortable with office-related software (Office suite, Google suite, Dropbox, etc.)

 

Assets

  • College or university degree in communications or a related field
  • Familiarity with contact management programs (Salesforce, CiviCRM, etc.)
  • Past experience animating social media in a non-profit or advocacy context
  • Experience in filming and editing short videos

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Full time : 35h per week
  • Salary : $18/hour
  • Seven month contract
