Food Security Policy Group
The Food Security Policy Group is an independent coalition composed of Canadian civil society voices which acts as the Working Group on International Issues for Food Secure Canada. Periodically it issues statements to which Food Secure Canada signs on. For example:
- In Spetember 2009, the FSPG sent a policy brief to CIDA on Food Security, calling for support for smallholders, enhancing the role of women, and addressing hunger through local food production.
- In July, 2009, the Food Security Policy Group issued a statement on Canada and the G8 meetings, which Food Secure Canada has endorsed, stating that Canadians should let their MPs know that food should be at the top of the agenda when Canada hosts the G8 summit in 2010.
- In June 2008, the Food Security Policy Group and Food Secure Canada issued a statement on the Food Crisis, which was published as an 'op-ed' in the Toronto Star.
