Food Sovereignty
Food Sovereignty is a concept used increasingly by the global movement for justice and sustainability in the food system, led by La Via Campesina but used also by many other groups. We are working with the ideas expressed in the language of food sovereignty to see how they relate to the way in which Food Secure Canada thinks about food security and issues such as food localism, sustainability, and international solidarity.
We are also engaged in The People's Food Policy Project, which builds on the work of the People's Food Commission (1977-1980). It is engaging Canadians in developing a concrete food sovereignty policy for Canada.
The People's Food Policy Project website has information, pamphlets, and links on food sovereignty around the world.
